Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Coppin State University Information Technology Division (ITD) keeps Coppin at the cutting edge of 21st century technology. Coppin State University is a model urban, residential liberal arts university located in the northwest section of the City of Baltimore that provides academic programs in the arts and sciences, teacher education, nursing, graduate studies, and continuing education.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support client systems’ hardware and software including microcomputers, scanners, printers and other peripherals.

  • Support client systems assisting microcomputer users in accomplishing daily IT tasks.

  • Providing software and hardware trouble-shooting, maintenance and support, installing microcomputer software and hardware, installing and configuring microcomputers OS based on the current IT policies.

  • Setting up and installing new microcomputers and peripherals to meet users’ expectations, and configuring client devices for networks.

  • Accept his/her daily assignments using an Automated Help Desk system.

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot client systems’ network connections in a Windows 7 Network Operating System using TCP/IP protocol.

  • PC deployment that includes lifting and carrying PCs and monitors weighing up to 20-lbs.

  • Position reports to the Client Computing Services Director and will be required to perform other related duties as assigned by the Client Computing Services Director.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or a closely related field required.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of three years of experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting microcomputer software and hardware in an educational networked environment using Windows 7/Windows 8.

  • Working knowledge of system cloning, local area networks and TCP/IP is required.

  • IT certification is a plus

  • Help desk experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot classroom audiovisual presentation equipment is desirable.

  • Knowledge of providing support to clients through remote desktop and experience in applying software updates and patches to domain computers.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Use of Microsoft Office 2013/2016 suite and Exchange e-mail as communication tools.

  • Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines and due dates.
